This study involves men, ages 45-74, from one of the following three groups:

Former NFL players:

  • Played 3 or more seasons in the NFL

  • Minimum of 12 years of organized football

  • No problems, or

  • Mild problems, or

  • Significant problems with memory, thinking, mood, or behavior

Former college football players:

  • Played 3 or more seasons of varsity football at the college level

  • Have not played football or any other organized contact sports after college

  • No problems, or

  • Mild problems, or

  • Significant problems with memory, thinking, mood, or behavior

Healthy controls:

  • Who have NO history of participation in organized contact sports

  • Who are NOT diagnosed with brain disorders including dementia and depression

  • Who do NOT have significant problems with memory, thinking, mood, or behavior
